Speaking of which, my brother has a car because he goes to a community college (and for that reason, he is mature?). Now the problem: my dad feels that I am too young for a car and does not feel that I am responsible and mature enough to handle one alone without supervision. My mom is willing to buy a car for me, with a reasonable price range. But my dad does not want to pay for car insurance. My parents are divorced, and I do most of the communication between them, especially when it comes down to needing money. I have brought up the aspect of working part-time. But my parents tell me that I should focus on school. My dad tells me I should focus on school instead of a car, but I need that car so I can get to where I need to be. My dad works from 9am-7pm, so I have no way of getting to 5pm practice or getting to school at 6am unless I rely on my dad. I understand how much stress my dad goes through supporting 4 children, two of which are about to go to college... It hurts when I have to ask him for money, even to pay for SATs and AP tests... Although essential, they still cost a lot of money, and money is tight now. With $65 per college app and college apps coming up in November, I'm going to be applying to nearly 10 schools, so over half a thousand dollars thrown away as my dad states it when I asked him to pay for my second SAT. My dad will pay for my academic needs, but he won't be happy about it. It feel as though my academic potential is being held back by how much money we have. I feel bad when I succeed now, basically. So I try my best to save money, like I gave examples of above. But now, I am only 1 step away from getting being independent, transportation-wise. All I need is my dad to agree to pay for my car insurance, which is probably about $200/month. Is that selfish of me? If not, how do I talk him into paying that $200/month, or to show him that I am mature enough to drive myself around? And because he didn't have a license, they impounded my car for 30 days, but if he had gotten his license within that time, I could've retrieved my car earlier, but he was not cooperating. To make a long story short, I paid 1,500 out of my pocket to release my car from the impound lot, and my car was insured at the time but he was too dumb to find it in my glove compartment and got a ticket for 2,000. He now wants proof of insurance to dismiss the ticket but I'm not giving him it until I'm reimbursed for the impound fees. Is there any way he can get out of the no insurance ticket without proof of insurance? I live in California btw. Thanks!

I just got into a car accident with my Toyota 4-runner ('97) and it looks to be totaled. Some guy just turned onto to the street and stopped, taking up the whole two lanes which left me no choice but to hit him head on. What I want to know is: 1. If my car is not repairable, how will I be covered? 2. Will I get the cost of the car? 3. If not, if anyone knows, please do tell me. Seriously, I really think my car is totaled. The car has been paid off years ago and I really don't want to deal with buying a new car and doing the whole car payment thing over. Thank you.

Good rule of thumb for uninsured insurance?

I heard that if you have health insurance that you don't need to get uninsured coverage.... is this true? I do have health insurance. UI costs $200 extra a year which seems unnecessary. My car isn't worth enough to get full coverage so just have liability.

Question about pregnancy insurance?

My husband and I plan on trying for our 3rd child sometime around August/September. For our first child, we were eligible for Medicaid and for our second we were on Tricare since my husband was deployed. However, right now I'm the only one who is uninsured. My husband can go to the VA Hospital anytime he needs to and my kids are on State insurance. We really don't want to get some type of family insurance since everyone besides me is all taken care of. So my question is: Is there some type of insurance that covers pregnancy that I could just sign up for? I decided to come here before really starting my research on the off-chance someone here is on one/knows of one. Since a lot of insurances would say a pregnancy was a pre-existing condition and not cover me, I want to be on it before we even start trying. Anyway, thanks!

DUI in CA - how much will my car insurance go up?

I was convicted of a DUI and soon I'll be eligible for a resticted license. I have to have an ignition interlock device installed, and file an SR-22 with my insurance company (Anchor General Insurance). I have not told them yet as I am not yet eligible. I called and they said that they do accept people with DUIs. I am currently paying $77 per month for full coverage. I'm male, 29 years old. How much can I expect my insurance cost to rise once I file the SR-22?
